Puri: In an unprecedented incident, the holy trinity at Srimandir-Lord Jagannath and his siblings -lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra had to undergo ritualistic purification through Mahasnana (great divine bath) as blood stain was found inside the shrine on Thursday.
The incident took place soon after the offering of Mangala Alati, Mailama and Tadapalagi rituals. During the rituals, heavy crowd of devotees were witnessed at Beharana Dwara of Bhitar Katha and around Garuda Stambha.
The exact reason behind the blood spilling has not yet been known. It is suspected that the incident happened due to huge congregation.
Devotees standing in queues outside the Singhadwara had to wait for hours as the general darshan was halted for quite sometimes for performing the Maha Snana ritual.
The temp had remained shut for over one hour. Similar incident had been reported in March and April this year.
The bleeding incident led to the halt of other scheduled rituals.
On the other hand, devotees standing under scorching sun expressed displeasure as the temple administration didn’t inform them regarding the special ritual that led to shutting of temple.
As per the temple tradition, if blood stains are found in the ‘Garbha Gruha’, ‘Bhitar Kath’ or ‘Bahar Kath’, the purification is observed and the interior of the shrine cleansed in a ritual called ‘Sodha’.
