Bhubaneswar: The family members of the Bhubaneswar youth, who had committed suicide in Nandan Vihar area recently, have staged a dharna in front of the DCP’s office here demanding arrest of Sonali Nanda–the girl who was named in the suicide note purportedly written by the deceased.
The incident took place on January 31, when the 30-year-old youth, Soumyaranjan Panigrahi, a budding model committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room at Housing Board Colony.
Meanwhile, after 22 days, his family members have staged a dharna in front of the DCP’s office in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Soumya’s family members have expressed serious disappointment over police inaction in the matter and also threatened to sit on dharna till the concerned girl is arrested.
“I have visited Infocity police station twice, filed an FIR and also met the DCP at his office. Though all evidence suggests that the girl abetted my son’s suicide no action has been taken by the police against her so far.
I will be on dharna to get justice for my son,” Soumya’s mother claimed.
The deceased had left a suicide note before ending his life where he has accused his said girlfriend, Sonali Nanda, a less popular Odia singer the reason behind his extreme step.
The suicide note read that Soumyaranjan committed suicide as he was upset after learning that his long time girlfriend, Sonali was cheating on him and having an affair with someone else.
On that note, the deceased also cited that he is taking such an extreme step over Sonali’s changing behaviour. As he was in a relationship with her since several months and wanted to marry her, Soumyaranjan became depressed over learning Sonali’s alleged affair with another guy.
Following this, Soumyaranjan hanged himself to death in his house. He, in the note, was also allowed to donate his body organs post his death.
