Bhubaneswar: The former manager of OMFED Jeypore Plant in Koraput district has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of two years after being convicted in a vigilance case.
The retired plant manager, identified as Umesh Chandra Mahapatra, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case for his alleged criminal misconduct, thereby causing a loss of about Rs 11 lakh to the government.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore convicted Umesh Chandra Mahapatra and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.
In default of payment of the fine, the convict shall undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 13(2)r/w13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988, the Vigilance court order further reads.
Odisha Vigilance further stated that it will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Mahapatra following his conviction.
