Bhubaneswar: Thousands of people congregated at Rasulgarh to see Maa Durga idol procession on Wednesday evening but there was a panic after a group drew out swords due to a clash with another group over suspected past rivalry.
A young man was seen wielding a sword and terrorising the revellers at the procession in the evening. However, the on-duty police personnel remained silent and watched like bystanders.
Later, even though the members of the Puja Committee came to the police station to file a complaint, the police refused to lodge a complaint. Following this, the members of the Puja Committee gathered and closed the gate of the police station and they were even seen shouting slogans against the police officers.
According to information, three youths named Priti Ranjan Baliarsingh, Sipu Samantaray and Lipu of Rasulgarh village had a fight with a local youth named Biswajit Lenka on Wednesday during Puja Bhasani in Rasulgarh over previous enmity. They took out swords to attack Biswajit.
Due to this, there was tension in the local area and the procession of Maa Durga was stopped for some time. Later, the Puja Committee members under the leadership of Rasulgarh Puja Committee Adviser Japani Rautray reached the Mancheswar police station to file a written complaint against Priti, Sipu and Lipu. But the police allegedly refused to lodge a complaint and said that discussions would be held on Thursday in the regard.
