Bhadrak: The Basudebpur police have apprehended a gang involved in the illegal sale of Rs 2,000 notes which have been banned by the government. The Police confiscated 51 pieces of these notes along with a total sum of Rs 1.15 lakh.
The police have also seized a fake press ID from Subal Chaudhary, who is said to be the local mastermind of the gang.
Chaudhary, a fraudster impersonating a journalist, used to deceive people by exchanging Rs 10,000 to 15,000 for a single Rs 2,000 note. He lured people claiming it would bring fortune and wealth. Through this scam, he profited significantly.
Acting on a tip-off, the Basudebpur police detained Pati Khan of Baikunthapur village under Brahmani gram panchayat and seized the money from him. Police have arrested three persons, including one from the Nabarangpur area in connection with this scam and investigating the matter further.
