An Iranian naval destroyer has sunk while undergoing repairs in a port near the Strait of Hormuz, according to media reports on Sunday.
A local news agency stated that the Sahand destroyer, which was being repaired at a dock, lost its balance due to water entering its tanks. The agency mentioned that the shallow depth of the waters makes it feasible to re-balance the destroyer.
It was also reported that those who injured in the incident were taken to a hospital, though details were not provided.
The Sahand, named after a mountain in northern Iran, was constructed over six years and deployed to the Persian Gulf in December 2018. The 1,300-ton ship was armed with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft guns, and advanced radar and stealth technology.
