Siliguri: The death toll rose to 15 in the tragic train accident that occurred near Rangapani station in West Bengal on Monday.
The huge impact caused at least two of the Kanchanjunga Express’s compartments to derail, with one of the coaches hanging in midair. The accident occurred in the Rangapani area of Siliguri, approximately seven kilometres from the New Jalpaiguri station in North Bengal.
The Kanchanjunga Express in Siliguri, Bengal, derailed after being struck by a cargo train, resulting in 15 fatalities and several injuries.
Rescue operations are underway at the spot, about 30 kilometres from North Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri station, and the injured persons were being shifted to nearby hospitals.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has now announced an enhanced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh in case of death, Rs 2.5 lakh towards grievous injuries, and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries. Previously, PM Narendra Modi had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
