Odisha SRC Releases Advisory For Protection Of Crops Ahead Of Forecasted Cyclone

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has advised for protection of paddy and other crops in the state ahead of the forecasted cyclone and possible rain.

SRC Satyabrata Sahu wrote a letter in this regard to the Principal Secretary to Government, Agriculture & FE Department.

“In view of the anticipated rainfall prediction, it is requested to issue required advisory to field functionaries for dissemination to farmers for taking appropriate preventive steps to protect paddy and other crops,” the SRC mentioned in the letter.

The low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression around tomorrow while the system may become a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“The Low Pressure Area over south Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal now lies as a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining South Andaman Sea. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around 30th November. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours,” the agency said in its morning bulletin today.

Fishermen the sea off east coast of India (from north Tamil Nadu to Odisha) have been advised to return to coast by 1st December.
