Puri: Tension erupted at Pipili town in the district on Monday after a youth was shot at by his rival camp over past enmity.
The youth identified as Sanatan Pradhan of Ujanipada under Pipili police limits, had come to the local market while one of his rivals intercepted him and called others. When his friends reached, he allegedly opened fire from his country gun. Sanatan sustained critical bullet injuries on his thigh.
A PCR van which was passing the place immediately stopped and rescued Sanatan. The accused and others associates fled the spot.
Police took the victim to nearest health centre. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for better medical attention.
Police launched a manhunt to arrest the youths who were involved in the firing.
According to police, there was a previous rivalry between both the groups in connection with passing lewd comments to a college girl. The matter had also come to the police station a few days ago.
