Vigilance Nabs Accountant For Taking Bribe In Puri

Puri: Odisha Vigilance sleuths today arrested Bikash Kumar Senapati, Accountant, O/o Block Education Officer in Puri district while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Based on intelligence, the Vigilance officials nabbed the accused for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant (retired teacher) for the issue of NOC to release his gratuity.

The teacher retired from Govt service in May 2022. Since his retirement, he had been requesting Senapati to issue a NOC in his favour to get his gratuity. However, Senapati was demanding a bribe of Rs.5000 to issue NOC in favour of the retired teacher. Finding no other way, he (retired teacher) informed them about his harassment to the Vigilance Authority.

The entire bribe amount has been recovered and seized from the possession of the accused. Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Senapati from the DA angle.

In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS case no 4/2024 u/s 7 PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered. The investigation is in progress against the accused.
