Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister and BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said that rumours and lies are the worst part of politics.

Patnaik remarked during a conversation with 5T & Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian, a video of which is now going viral as suspense continued over a possible alliance between the ruling BJD and opposition BJP for the upcoming general elections.

The political scenario in Odisha has been quite uncertain, following conflicting statements made by BJP Odisha president Manmohan Samal and the party’s Odisha election in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar.

While Samal and Tomar claimed that there were no talks of an alliance with the ruling BJD in Delhi, BJD’s organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das accompanied by VK Pandian had visited the national capital on Thursday night for tie-up talks with BJP leaders.

Though Samal and Tomar denied any alliance discussions, senior BJP leader and MP Jual Oram had admitted that they did discuss the alliance.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s recent remark, “rumours and lies are the worst part of politics”, has left people divided on what he meant.

Sources from both parties have claimed that there were indeed discussions on an alliance. However, Tomar has asserted that the BJP is preparing to fight the elections alone in the state and is confident of winning more than 80 assembly seats and over 16 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha.
