Renowned Sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra To Be Cremated With Full State Honours

Bhubaneswar: Eminent sculptor Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra, who succumbed to COVID-19 today, will be cremated with full state honours.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his condolences over the death of Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra, a prominent member of the Rajya Sabha.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that the late sculptor had made the great art tradition of Odisha globally.

“He will always be remembered for his great contribution to the enrichment of the arts and heritage of Odisha,” the Odisha CM said.

“Mohapatra was a unique devotee of Lord Jagannath. He was instrumental in the construction of the Jagannath Temple in many parts of the country. He also assisted in the repair of the Puri Srimandir. He has shown his incomparable craftsmanship by rebuilding the Ganjam Tara Tarini temple. In fact, he was one of the wonders of the art world,” said CM Naveen Patnaik.

The Chief Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. “His absence has created a huge vacuum in India’s art world,” Patnaik said.

The Chief Minister also announced that the funeral of late Raghunath Mohapatra will be held with full state honors.
