Forest guard, watchman caught taking bribe in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended a lady forest guard and a watchman for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in Jharsuguda district on Monday.

The accused persons have been identified as Jharana Sahoo, Forest Guard of Banaharpalli Beat under Bandhabahal forest and Sanjay Barik, the watchman of the forest.

Based on intelligence input, the Vigilance officials conducted a raid in the forest and caught the two accused while accepting the bribe money.

As per reports, the Forest Guard had demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant to give permission and facilitate the cutting of trees from his homestead land. Following the direction of the lady forest guard, the watchman went to the person to collect the money.

The entire bribe money has been recovered from the accused and seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Smt Sahoo from the DA angle.

A case has been registered in the police station in this connection. An investigation is in progress against the two accused.
