Cyclone Yaas: Low Pressure Becomes Well-Marked

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre said the Low Pressure over East-Central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low pressure system.

“It is very very likely to concentrate into depression in the next 6 hours and most probably move northnorthwestwards while intensifying into a Cyclonic Storm by 24th May,” it added.

As per the IMD’s latest bulletin, the system may cross the coastline between Odisha, Bengal and Bangladesh as very severe cyclonic storm by May during subsequent 24 hours.

Due to the cyclonic effect, north coastal districts of Odisha will are likely to recieve heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj will be most affected.

Similarly, the districts like Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri district will most probably recieve heavy rainfall during the period, said a senior official.

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner has ordered for the dispatch of NDRF teams to districts most likely to be affected by the cyclonic storm.

As per sources, 7 NDRF teams will be deployed in Balasore district, 4 in Bhadrak, 3 in Kendrapara, 2 in Jajpur & 1 team each in Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts.
