Armed Youth, Who Held 3 Family Members Captive, Nabbed

Bolangir: The armed youth, who held three members of a family captive in the Shantipada area, has been nabbed after 5 hours of long operation by the Bolangir police.

The accused has been identified as Bikram Panda, a businessman by profession. He was in a relationship with a girl, who works as a clerk at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital here. The kin of the girl had recently rejected his proposal of marrying her.

According to reports, Bikram barged into the house of one Madan Mohan Hota, the girl’s uncle, located in Shantipada, this morning and enquired about the whereabouts of his niece. When Hota said that she has left the house for work, he threatened the family members by brandishing a gun.

On being informed, Town Police led by the Sadar SDPO rushed to the spot and launched a probe.

However, the family members were rescued after the brother and mother of the accused were summoned to the spot.

Police initially tried to convince the youth over the phone but in vain and nabbed the youth after five hours of long operation.

The youth reportedly fired 2-3 rounds in the air during the police operation, informed the senior official.
