Covid update: India’s daily case count over 3 lakh for sixth day in a row

New Delhi: India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 1,76,36,307 with 3,23,144 new infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have crossed 1.45 crore, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death count increased to 1,97,894 with 2,771 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Top five states which have registered the maximum cases are Maharashtra with 48,700 cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 33,551 cases, Karnataka with 29,744 cases, Kerala with 21,890 cases and Delhi with 20,201 cases. 47.67% of the fresh Covid-19 cases are reported from these five states, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 15.07% of the new cases. 2,771 deaths were reported in India in the last 24 hours. Maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (524), followed by Delhi with 380 daily deaths.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said 28,09,79,877 samples have been tested up to April 26 for Covid-19. Of these 16,58,700 samples were tested yesterday.
