Bhubaneswar: Odisha, the sports capital of India, is gearing up to host the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023.

With the Men’s Hockey World Cup set to begin next month, the civic authorities have initiated preparations in full force.

Skilled planners from Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre (BUKC) have conceptualised the beautification projects. The grey areas, where aesthetic touch can be given in terms of landscape design and wall painting, have been earmarked in an artist’s impression by the BUKC team.

However, along with all the efforts of making the city look pretty, the price is being paid by ‘mother nature’. All the revamping of the look of the city, has taken a toll on the environment as trees are being fell in order to achieve the goals.

What is seeming to be more troublesome is that authorities are not taking measures to plant trees in compensation to the felling of hundreds more.
