New Delhi: Lieutenant General (Dr) Sarat Chandra Dash, Army Medical Corps (Retired), hailing from Nayagarh in Odisha, was among the Armed Forces and Indian Coast Guard personnel honoured with distinguished service awards.
He was bestowed with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal by President Droupadi Murmu in recognition of his exceptional service and commitment to the nation.
The accolades were presented during the defence investiture ceremony’s second phase at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Friday. “The Ministry of Defence announced that these honours – 31 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, four Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, two Bars to Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, and 57 AVSMs – were awarded for distinguished service of an exceptional order,” stated a ministry release.
An alumnus of SCB Medical College, Dash earned his MCh in Urology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He also underwent specialized training in robotic urology surgery in the United States.
The Lt Gen retired as the Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff of the Indian Army. His previous commendations include the Yudh Seva Medal for the Kargil War and the Vishisht Seva Medal.
The Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, established on January 26, 1960, is conferred to acknowledge the distinguished service of an exceptional order by officers of the armed forces, including reserve and territorial army forces, as well as nursing officers.
