Odisha Vigilance secured the highest number of convictions in the country in 2024, with 150 accused persons punished for corruption-related offences, according to NCRB’s Crime in India-2024 report.
The agency also ranked second in the detection of 62 disproportionate assets (DA) cases, reflecting its aggressive approach in tracking illicit wealth.
Officials said Odisha Vigilance filed charge sheets against 696 accused persons during the year, the second highest in India. A total of 283 cases were charge sheeted, placing Odisha among the top five states in this category.
The bureau also ranked second in the dismissal or removal of 29 corrupt government servants from service. On the parameter of corruption cases resulting in conviction, Odisha Vigilance stood second with 105 cases. However, in terms of the number of persons convicted, it ranked first nationwide.
Odisha Vigilance detected and registered 53 corruption cases involving criminal misconduct, including misappropriation of government funds, ranking third among states. The agency also stood fourth in awarding major punishments to accused persons in vigilance cases.
Officials emphasised that the detection of DA cases requires extensive groundwork in collecting financial records and asset details of public servants. The NCRB data shows Odisha Vigilance consistently ranks among the top-performing anti-corruption agencies in India across multiple parameters.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to continue strong action against corrupt officials and maintain transparency in governance.
