The Haryana government has temporarily suspended mobile internet services in parts of Faridabad as a precautionary measure during a demolition drive scheduled for May 30.
According to an official order issued by the Home Affairs Department, mobile internet services, bulk SMS services, and dongle-based internet connections have been suspended within a one-kilometre radius of the notified area in the NIT Zone of Faridabad district.
The restrictions came into effect at 12:30 am on May 30 and will remain in place until 10:00 pm the same day.
Why Has Internet Been Suspended in Faridabad?
Officials said the decision was taken to maintain public order and prevent any potential law-and-order issues during the demolition operation.
The order was issued after inputs from senior police officials and district authorities highlighted concerns about possible public unrest, crowd mobilisation, property damage, and disruptions to peace in the area.
Authorities stated that temporary internet restrictions could help prevent the spread of misinformation and rumours through social media platforms and messaging applications.
Services Affected by the Suspension
Under the order, the following services have been temporarily suspended:
- Mobile internet services (2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G)
- Bulk SMS services
- Dongle-based internet services on mobile networks
The suspension applies only within the designated one-kilometre radius around the notified location in Faridabad’s NIT Zone.
Services That Will Continue
The government clarified that several essential services will remain operational throughout the restriction period.
These include:
- Voice calling services
- Banking-related SMS alerts
- Mobile recharge messages
- Individual SMS services
- Broadband internet connections
- Leased-line internet services for businesses and institutions
Officials said these exemptions have been provided to minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses.
Government Cites Public Safety Concerns
According to the official notification, the restrictions aim to stop the misuse of social media and messaging platforms for spreading false information or mobilising groups that could disrupt public order.
Authorities stressed that the suspension is a temporary and preventive measure intended to ensure public safety and facilitate the smooth conduct of the demolition drive.
The government also directed all telecom service providers operating in Haryana to implement the order immediately and ensure full compliance.
Temporary Measure Limited to Specific Area
Officials emphasized that the restrictions are limited to the notified area in Faridabad and are not applicable across the entire district or state.
The administration has urged residents to cooperate with authorities and rely on official sources for updates regarding the demolition drive and related developments.
The internet suspension is expected to be lifted automatically after the notified period ends on the night of May 30.
