Suvendu Adhikari will take charge as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 9 in Kolkata.
The decision followed the BJP legislative party meeting, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah formally announced Adhikari’s elevation.
The new government structure will include two Deputy Chief Ministers, reflecting a broader leadership arrangement. Senior NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are expected to attend the high-profile oath ceremony at Brigade Parade Ground.
Adhikari’s rise marks a significant political shift in West Bengal. He first gained national prominence by defeating Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram in 2021, later consolidating his position with a decisive victory in Bhabanipur. His Bhabanipur win, with a margin of over 15,000 votes, cemented his role as a central figure in the BJP’s expansion across the state.
Known for his grassroots outreach and strategic campaigning, Adhikari played a key role in strengthening the party’s voter base across multiple regions. His leadership now signals a new political phase in West Bengal, with expectations of governance reforms and tighter Centre-State coordination.
With the leadership finalised, the new government will assume charge after the oath ceremony, marking the beginning of Adhikari’s tenure as Chief Minister.
