Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced that pre-admission medical tests will now be included under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, aiming to strengthen patient benefits and ensure transparency in healthcare services.
Mahaling stated that any diagnostic tests conducted up to three days before hospital admission must be covered under the Ayushman package. He warned that hospitals failing to comply with this directive will face strict action. Private hospitals across the State have been instructed to adhere to the guidelines without exception.
The Health Minister revealed that several hospitals were not including pre-admission tests under the scheme, leading to complaints from patients and families. Reports through media and social platforms highlighted the issue, prompting the government to act.
A high-level committee has been formed to monitor implementation. The committee will inspect hospitals to ensure compliance and report irregularities. Mahaling emphasised that the government takes the matter seriously and will not tolerate violations.
During a review meeting with departmental officials and representatives of private hospitals, the Health Minister stressed the importance of proper conduct by hospital staff. He directed hospitals to provide quality treatment and maintain respectful behaviour toward patients and attendants.
