The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a nationwide advisory directing all medical colleges to remain vigilant and avoid granting leave to students on June 20 and June 21, ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21.
In a public notice dated June 18, 2026, the NMC instructed institutions to strictly comply with guidelines from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, to ensure fair and transparent conduct of the exam. The Commission emphasised that colleges must counsel students against any activity that could compromise the integrity of the examination process.
The advisory follows reports of past instances where medical students were allegedly linked to activities undermining examination sanctity. The NMC urged colleges to sensitise students about ethical conduct and maintain strict monitoring during the exam period.
Medical colleges have been asked not to grant leave on June 20 and June 21 except in exceptional cases with valid justification. The Commission described the measure as a preventive step to discourage misuse and support the smooth conduct of the NEET UG re-test.
The directive has been sent to deans and principals of all medical colleges under NMC’s purview and copied to state medical education departments for compliance.
The NEET UG 2026 re-exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), will take place on June 21 under heightened security measures to ensure transparency and fairness.
