Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today disbursed the fifth instalment of the Subhadra Yojana at a grand programme in Lathipada, Nayagada.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, and several ministers joined the event, which drew a crowd of more than 15,000 people.
A total of 1,03,26,162 beneficiaries received the instalment directly into their bank accounts, amounting to over Rs 5,160 crore. Among them, 2,21,054 women received Subhadra assistance for the first time. Security was tightened around the venue, with Nayagada SP Subhendu Patra confirming extensive arrangements to manage the large turnout and weather conditions.
CM Majhi Slams Previous Regime Over ‘Slogan Politics’
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment through the Subhadra scheme. He launched a sharp attack on the previous government, claiming that women’s empowerment during its 24‑year rule was “restricted to slogans.”
Majhi said earlier regimes only provided loans to a few self‑help group (SHG) women, but failed to create lasting empowerment. “Women’s empowerment cannot be achieved merely through loan money,” he asserted, adding that his government initiated the Subhadra scheme in its very first cabinet meeting.
The CM noted that the state spends Rs 11,000 crore annually on Subhadra Yojana, which has already shown measurable impact. Citing surveys by IIM Sambalpur and SBI, Majhi said 80% of women are investing Subhadra funds in long‑term goals, while 45% of beneficiaries have seen growth in their bank balances.
“Subhadra has made women’s empowerment possible, and surveys confirm it,” Majhi said, underscoring the scheme’s role in reshaping Odisha’s social and economic landscape.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi marked Rakhi Purnima with a symbolic gesture of fraternity and respect as Deputy CM Pravati Parida and Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy tied rakhis on his hand today.
Sharing the moment on X, CM Majhi wrote: “On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Hon’ble Speaker Surama Padhy and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida tied rakhi on my hand. I am grateful for their affection and respect.”

The Subhadra Yojana, launched in 2024, provides Rs 10,000 annually to eligible women in two instalments of Rs 5,000 each, timed around Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day.
