The fifth instalment of Subhadra Yojana was released at a state-level programme at Lathipada in Nayagada district, in the presence of Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Deputy Chief Minister and Women and Child Development Minister Pravati Parida, Members of Parliament and MLAs.

A total of 1,03,26,162 beneficiaries across Odisha received more than Rs 5,163 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer. Nayagarh district accounted for 2,33,585 beneficiaries, who received Rs 116.80 crore in this instalment.

Speaking at the event, Shri Majhi said: “On Rakhi Purnima, a brother gives a gift to his sister. As the head of the government, providing Subhadra assistance on Raksha Bandhan feels like fulfilling a brother’s responsibility.”

He stressed that true empowerment goes beyond financial aid, encompassing social, political, and economic self‑reliance, and the right for women to make their own decisions.

Citing surveys by IIM Sambalpur and the State Bank of India, Majhi noted that nearly 80% of women used Subhadra assistance not only for daily needs but also for long‑term financial security, business, and development work. As many as 87.19% of beneficiaries described the scheme as highly useful, with measurable increases in account balances and monthly expenditure.

The CM highlighted success stories of entrepreneurs such as Ranjubala and Saudamini Nanda of Nayagada, Gauri Sahu of Ganjam, Bharati Jagadal of Subarnapur, and Arati Khosla of Koraput, saying their journeys had become an inspiration for other women across Odisha.

Majhi announced that the Women Entrepreneurship Platform would provide guidance, skill training, market linkage, and financial support to help women start businesses. He expressed satisfaction that Odisha had already created 27 lakh “Lakhpati Didis” ahead of target, placing the state first in the country.

He also referred to initiatives such as the Kanyabibaha Yojana, Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana, and the allocation of Rs 1,22,764 crore for women in the state budget. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, Majhi appealed to people to light a lamp on September 17, the Prime Minister’s 76th birthday, and offer prayers.

Assuring the people of Nayagada, Majhi said a sugar mill would be set up soon with the Centre’s support, and work on the Brittang irrigation project would also begin.

Speaker Surama Padhy said the government had taken the right decision by implementing the Subhadra Yojana immediately after assuming office. Under the Chief Minister’s leadership, she noted, the scheme had transformed the social and economic lives of more than one crore mothers and sisters. Calling Majhi a “people’s Chief Minister”, she said he was working tirelessly to reach the state’s 4.5 crore citizens. She also highlighted that the correction of Nayagada’s English spelling had safeguarded the district’s pride and identity.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida described Subhadra as a symbol of the dreams, dignity, and self‑reliance of women. Thanking the Chief Minister for introducing free bus travel for women on Rakhi Purnima, she said the scheme had empowered women to make independent decisions and pursue entrepreneurship. She added that under Majhi’s leadership, Subhadra would become the foundation of Odisha’s development.

Puri MP Sambit Patra lauded the achievement of the Lakhpati Didi target ahead of schedule, noting that MPs in Parliament were struck by images of the Chief Minister travelling by boat and inspecting flood‑hit areas barefoot.

Kandhamala MP Sukanta Panigrahi said society progresses when maternal power is awakened. Guided by the Prime Minister at the national level and the Chief Minister in the state, he said, a new awakening had begun in honour of mothers.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister interacted with successful Subhadra beneficiaries from Kendujhar and Ganjam districts and released the Subhadra Annual Report 2025‑26, the SBI Survey Report, and the Subhadra Samiksha.

Deputy CM and Speaker Tie Rakhis on CM Majhi’s Hand:

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi marked Rakhi Purnima with a symbolic gesture of fraternity and respect as Deputy CM Pravati Parida and Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy tied rakhis on his hand today.

Sharing the moment on X, CM Majhi wrote: “On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Hon’ble Speaker Surama Padhy and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida tied rakhi on my hand. I am grateful for their affection and respect.”
