Authorities at the Hirakud Dam closed two sluice gates on Friday morning, leaving eight gates open — five on the left spillway and three on the right — to regulate floodwater release.
According to the 9 am update, the reservoir level stood at 624.25 feet. The average inflow was recorded at 2,05,974 cusecs, while the average outflow stood at 1,94,927 cusecs. Of this, 1,59,970 cusecs was discharged through the spillway, 32,016 cusecs via the power channel, 229 cusecs for industrial use, and 2,712 cusecs through canals.
Downstream discharge levels were reported at 3,05,000 cusecs at Khairmal, 3,62,500 cusecs at Barmul, and 5,11,258 cusecs at Mundali. Officials continue to monitor inflows and downstream conditions closely as the reservoir shows a rising trend.
