A South Delhi neighbourhood was left stunned on Thursday after a dermatologist was arrested for the alleged murder of a domestic worker who had been employed by his family for more than a decade.

Police said Meena Haldar, 45, was found dead on the terrace of a residential building in the Kailash Hills area. The accused, identified as 50-year-old dermatologist Manish Gupta, was arrested from the scene.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including statements made by the accused and claims from family members regarding his mental health history.

Domestic Worker Found Dead on Terrace

According to police, Haldar arrived at the residence on Thursday morning to carry out her regular household duties. After completing some work inside the apartment, she reportedly went to the building’s terrace.

Investigators allege that Gupta later followed her to the terrace, where the fatal attack took place.

A neighbour reportedly noticed Haldar lying motionless on the terrace and alerted police through an emergency call. Officers arrived shortly afterward and found her with severe injuries.

What Police Say Happened

Police officials stated that preliminary investigations suggest the accused attacked Haldar during an altercation. Authorities allege that multiple weapons were used during the assault.

The suspect was reportedly present at the location when police arrived and was subsequently taken into custody.

Law enforcement officials said they have recovered items believed to be connected to the crime and have begun forensic examinations.

Motive Under Investigation

During questioning, the accused allegedly cited long-standing grievances related to the domestic worker. Investigators said he also made claims that she brought “negative energy” into the household.

Police have stressed that all statements are being verified as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are also reviewing medical records after family members claimed Gupta had been receiving treatment for mental health-related issues for several years.

Family Demands Justice

Haldar’s family expressed shock and grief over her death. Relatives described her as a hardworking woman who had spent years supporting her family through domestic work.

Family members have demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.

The incident triggered protests by several domestic workers in the area, with many gathering outside the residential complex seeking answers and justice for the victim.

Residents Left Shocked

Neighbours described the incident as unexpected, saying the accused was known in the locality and had maintained a low profile.

Residents expressed concern over the tragedy and called for a complete investigation into the circumstances that led to the killing.

Investigation Continues

Police have registered a murder case and are continuing their investigation. Authorities are examining forensic evidence, witness statements and medical records to establish the sequence of events and determine all relevant facts.

Officials said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
