Israel: Israel’s military said it intercepted a rocket launched from Gaza early on Friday that set off air raid sirens in Israeli communities as a 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) deadline to extend a pause in fighting with Hamas neared.
There was no immediate comment from the Palestinian militant group about the occurence, which Israel’s Kan public broadcaster described as the first since an Israel-Hamas truce started on Nov. 24.
Media affiliated to Hamas said explosions and gunfire could be head in the northern part of the Gaza Strip ahead of the truce deadline. No other details were immediately available.
After two last-minute extensions, the enemies marked the seventh day of a Qatari-mediated truce on Thursday with the exchange of eight hostages and 30 Palestinian prisoners as well as the infusion of more humanitarian aid into the shattered Gaza Strip.
The Wall Street Journal, citing Egyptian officials, said earlier on Friday that Israel and Hamas had agreed to extend the truce for an eighth day in a deal that will involve the release of more Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
