Bhubaneswar: An inmate of a de-addiction center at Dhauli on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was allegedly battered to death on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Jharana Sahi native Kalu Nayak. Three months ago, he was admitted to the de-addiction center for treatment.

Nayak’s family claimed that he was murdered by beating. At the Dhauli police station, they raised concerns about this connection.

“In the hopes that my spouse may be free from addiction and return home, we have given Rs 40,000 to the de-addiction center. But he was killed. His body is covered in injuries and wounds. The center informed me that my husband had had a heart attack. His dead body was there when I got to the hospital,” the deceased’s widow stated.

“We were not permitted to meet and speak to him in the last three months,” she added.

Dhauli police and a scientific team visited the de-addiction clinic and launched an investigation in response to the complaint.

The CCTC cameras that were set up at the facility have been taken. Additionally, the authorities are questioning the center’s owner about this.

The deceased’s body was submitted for a post-mortem. After the post-mortem report is received, the cause of the death will be determined. The incident is the subject of an investigation. After receiving the post-mortem report, the following line of action will be decided, according to Bhubaneswar Zone 2 ACP Girija Chakrabarty.
