Bolangir: Two employees of the ordnance factory at Badmal in the district suffered critical burn injuries in an explosion in the unit today. The injured have been identified as two senior technicians- D. B.W. Gautam Mahanand and Joint Works Manager Saroj Kumar Panda.
They have been shifted to Rourkela IGH.
According to reports, the incident occurred during bomb making process. The explosion took place while chemicals were being mixed to make bombs in Unit-3 of the factory today.
The reason of the sudden explosion has not yet been ascertained. Gautam Mahanand and Saroj Kumar Panda were seriously injured. They were first admitted to the Ayudha Nirman Hospital in Badmal. Both have been shifted to Rourkela as their condition is critical.
Gautam’s two eyes and one hand were injured while Saroj’s one eye and two hands suffered serious burns. Around 80 percent of their bodies were burnt in the blast.
