Phulbani: A local court on Tuesday sentenced 25 years in prison to a 55-year-old man for raping a minor girl three years ago.
The special POCSO judge Sanjit Behera also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 the accused Vijay Naik. The court also awarded one year rigorous imprisonment in default of payment of fine.
In December 2020, the victim was playing in front of her house. Accused Vijay Nayak took her to his hotel and allegedly raped her.
Her family members lodged a complaint at G. Udayagiri police station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused Vijay Naik.
Senior government lawyer Asim Kumar Praharaj was handling the case.
