Angul: The carcass of an elephant was found at Madhapur Madhapur forest mouza in the district this morning.
Forest officials suspected that the pachyderm died of electrocution after coming in contact with a live electric wire.
Locals spotted the body and immediately informed the forest officials.
“Preliminary investigation did not hint at poaching as the tusks of the animal were intact. Further investigation is continuing to ascertain the cause of death of the animal,” said a forest official.
