Talcher: Passing lewd comments in an inebriated condition to college girls cost a young man dear in Talcher area of Angul district.
The youth was handed over to police before being paraded with head tonsure and garland of slippers at Balunga village under Talcher police limits.
According to police, three drunken youths had allegedly followed some college girls of Balunga village and made obscene gesture with lewd comments on Thursday. However, the students paid no heeds and proceeded.
After returning from college, they narrated the ordeal before family members and villagers.
A group of villagers planed to give a lesson to the erring youths. Like other days, the girls also fell prey to the comments of the youths on Friday. The villagers, who had earlier planned to catch them, followed the youths and caught one of them while two others had managed to flee.
Later, they took him to the village puja ground and beat him black and blue after tonsuring his head and garlanding him with slippers.
They also handed over the accused to police.
No complaint has been registered from either side, police said.
