Two Cops Injured As Protesters Hurl Burning Tyre During Eviction Drive

Bhubaneswar: Two police personnel were injured after locals staging a protest against an eviction drive in Aiginia area of Bhubaneswar threw a burning tyre on a police team.

According to reports, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation was carrying out a demolition drive in Subash Nagar slum in Aiginia. However, tension erupted after the protestors threw a burning tyre on the team of police who were deployed at the spot to control the agitation.

As a result, two police constables-Amaresh Sahu and Jitendra Gochi sustained minor burn injuries in the incident.

According to information, the BMC today demolished the Subhas Nagar slum in Aiginia which was strongly opposed by the slum dwellers. For about an hour, residents of Subhas Nagar slum blocked the National Highway. As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the road.

The BMC has demolished about 50 shops in Aiginia Square. The shopkeeper, on the other hand, complained that the shop was demolished without notice.
