At least seven students sustained injuries when a school van overturned near the electricity office at Chikiti under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district on Saturday.

Reports said the van was carrying around 12 students from the Chandpur area to Pitatali Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya. The driver lost control of the vehicle near the electricity office, causing it to ram into an electric pole before overturning.

The driver suffered critical injuries. He was first taken to a nearby health centre and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur for advanced treatment.

All injured students were rushed to Chikiti Community Health Centre (CHC). Doctors confirmed their condition remains stable. Parents and locals gathered at the hospital after hearing about the accident.

Police reached the spot soon after the mishap and began investigating the circumstances. Authorities are examining whether negligence or speeding led to the accident.
