The Strait of Hormuz reopened after 47 days, signalling a major step toward easing regional tensions. US President Donald Trump announced that the strategic waterway is now “completely open and ready for business.”
Trump said restrictions would remain only for Iran until negotiations conclude. He confirmed that talks with Tehran are “very close” to a peace deal, adding that “no sticking points” remain. The US insists Iran must surrender its enriched uranium stockpile before any agreement is finalised.
Iran, however, warned that the war is not over. Defence Ministry spokesman Reza Talaei said Tehran would respond to any “deception in diplomacy.” He added that reopening the Strait for non-military ships depends on a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Earlier, discussions between US and Iranian officials in Pakistan ended without resolution. Both sides are expected to meet again in Islamabad on Monday. Iranian authorities said they hope to reach a preliminary agreement “in the coming days.”
Trump expressed optimism, saying the deal would be “very good for everybody.” He also confirmed that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports will continue until the transaction is complete.
