Sanitation Arrangements Fail At Crematorium; Used-PPE Kits Remain Littered

Bhubaneswar: While personal protection equipment (PPE) kits have played a crucial role in battling the raging COVID pandemic, it raised a matter of concern due to failure in planning and ensuring proper, post-use disposal of these highly infectious items near Satyanagar Crematorium.

Reportedly, over 10 bodies were brought for cremation here on regular basis. People who come to the cremation ground for the last rites of their family members reportedly dump used PPE kits at the crematorium area which is suspected to lead to the spread of the virus.

Apart from the COVID deaths, deceased were also cremated here along with the bodies of those infected with Covid. Locals blamed Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities for negligence on the part of cleanliness. Though BMC collects funds for cremation and registration, they are unable to take any steps regarding cleaning and sanitation of the premises, alleged locals.

Several dustbins were kept in the area, however, people were seen dumping the used PPE kits and hand gloves here and there.
