Retired Junior Clerk Gets 5-Yr Jail For Amassing Disproportionate Assets

Bhubaneswar: A vigilance court in Baripada today convicted Pratap Chandra Keshi, a retired Junior Clerk of Special Planning Authority in Mayurbhanj district, in a disproportionate assets (DA) case and sentenced him to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment.

Pratap Chandra Keshi, Ex-Junior Clerk (Retired) of the Special Planning Authority in Baripada, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case vide Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada TR No.15/2016 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) to his known sources of income.

The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada today convicted Keshi and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 5 years and to pay a fine of Rs.25,000, and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 5 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988.

The disproportionate assets worth Rs.19,03,909 were also confiscated by the state. Today, the convict, Pratap Chandra Keshi, Ex-Junior Clerk (Retired) was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Pratap Chandra Keshi, Ex-Junior Clerk (Retired) following his conviction, the Vigilance Directorate said in a press note.

Notably, Pradip Kumar Samal, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Balasore Division, A/p-DSP, Vigilance, Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Sri Santanu Das, Spl. P.P., Vigilance, Baripada conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
