The Kolnara Gram Nyayalaya in Rayagada has convicted Pramod Kumar Mahapatra alias Sadananda of Mukundpur village in a land sale fraud case, sentencing him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment along with a Rs 10,000 fine.
Delivering the verdict, JMFC Judge Jyotirmayee Sadangi ruled that if the fine is not paid, the accused will serve an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
According to case records, Mahapatra had promised to sell land to the complainant and collected Rs 2.5 lakh. However, he neither returned the money nor registered the land in the complainant’s name.
The case was registered at Chandili police station on October 4, 2018 (Case No. 116/2018) and later tried as GR Case No. 52/2018 under IPC Sections 417, 420, and 294.
After examining all evidence, the court found Mahapatra guilty of cheating under Section 417 IPC. The investigation was conducted by Harsha Chandra Pani, while government advocates Debasish Pattnayak and C.H. Nirmala Raju represented the prosecution.
