Ending an eight-year hiatus, student union elections returned to campuses across Odisha, with Balangir’s KV College witnessing vibrant participation as students cast their ballots to elect new student representatives.
Out of 1,308 registered voters, 783 students exercised their franchise, bringing the overall voter turnout to approximately 60 per cent.
Department-wise breakdowns show strong engagement: the Arts stream recorded 469 voters out of 726 (approx. 64.6%), Commerce saw 171 out of 341 (approx. 50.1%), and Science registered 143 out of 241 (approx. 59.3%).
To ensure a peaceful and orderly polling process, strict security measures were enforced on the campus. Personnel from the Kantabanji SDPO office, local police stations, and a platoon force were deployed under the supervision of the Titlagarh Sub-Collector and Kantabanji Tehsildar.
While college authorities successfully managed the smooth execution of the polls, the factors behind the remaining students abstaining from voting have sparked discussions on campus. Newly elected student leaders are expected to focus actively on institutional development and student welfare.
