Rampur police achieved a breakthrough by seizing 1,500 bottles of cough syrup from a private night coach bus in Subarnapur district.
The bus, travelling from Bhubaneswar to Dunguripali via Binika, was intercepted near Rampur Women’s College after officers grew suspicious.
During the inspection, police discovered five packets containing the cough syrup. The seizure took place in the presence of a magistrate, ensuring proper legal procedure. Authorities detained three individuals involved in transporting the consignment and began interrogation to trace the supply chain.
Officials said the crackdown reflects ongoing efforts to curb the illegal movement of restricted substances in the region. The seized cough syrup is suspected to have been intended for black-market distribution.
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify the source of the consignment and its intended buyers.
