Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the State-Level World Water Day 2026 celebrations at Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
He launched projects worth Rs 2,612 crore, including the foundation stone for 17 projects valued at Rs 2,292 crore and the inauguration of 124 projects worth Rs 320 crore.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to pledge against wasting even a drop of water, stressing that water conservation must become a household message. He emphasised educating children in schools about saving water, calling them the “future water soldiers.”
Majhi highlighted the government’s commitment to providing clean drinking water through pipelines to every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He said water security is essential for building a prosperous and developed Odisha, and no farmland should suffer from scarcity.
The CM also inaugurated the child care centre “Kalika” at Rajiv Bhavan and launched the AI-powered citizen feedback chatbot “Bindu.” He unveiled the coffee table book Sujala and a river atlas, while the Water Resources Department signed an MoU with the Central Water Commission.
Majhi outlined Odisha’s balanced water policy, crop intensity targets of 220% by 2036 and 250% by 2047, and initiatives like canal lining, recharge shafts, and smart irrigation projects. He stressed eliminating gender disparity in water management and strengthening rural economies by involving women and self-help groups as “Jal Sathis.”
The CM concluded by urging citizens to treat water as life and ensure its sustainable use for future generations.
