The Special Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday convicted Manoj Kumar Mohanty, former Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Balangir, in a high-profile disproportionate assets (DA) case.
The Special Judge, Special Court, Vigilance, sentenced the retired official to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years, alongside a fine of Rs. 1 lakh.
The case dates back to the rigorous investigation led by Odisha Vigilance, which successfully charge-sheeted Mohanty under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Investigators uncovered wealth far exceeding his known sources of income during his tenure as a public servant.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance officials have confirmed that they will immediately move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the complete stoppage of Mohanty’s pension. This landmark ruling underscores the state’s ongoing commitment to accountability and zero tolerance for corruption within public offices.
