Odisha government has initiated the groundwork for establishing five new medical colleges across the state, marking a significant step toward strengthening healthcare education and infrastructure.
Authorities have directed officials to expedite land identification and cost estimation to ensure timely project execution.
Land Identification Process Underway
The state’s Works Department has instructed Superintending Engineers to identify suitable land for the proposed medical colleges. Officials have been asked to coordinate closely with district collectors to accelerate the process and ensure that viable locations are finalized without delay.
The move follows an earlier announcement made by the Chief Minister during the state budget presentation, highlighting the government’s commitment to expanding medical education facilities.
Proposed Locations for New Medical Colleges
As per the plan, three Ayurvedic medical colleges will be established in the districts of:
- Gajapati
- Malkangiri
- Rayagada
Additionally, two government homeopathic medical colleges are proposed in:
- Nayagarh
- Nuapada
This expansion aims to improve access to alternative systems of medicine while also addressing regional disparities in healthcare education.
Cost Estimation and Administrative Approval
Authorities have also been directed to prepare a detailed cost estimation for the construction of these institutions. Once both the land identification and financial assessment reports are completed, the proposal will be submitted for administrative approval.
Officials indicated that construction work is expected to begin soon after approvals are granted.
Focus on Healthcare and Education Growth
The initiative reflects Odisha’s broader strategy to enhance its healthcare ecosystem and provide more opportunities for students pursuing medical education. By expanding both Ayurvedic and homeopathic institutions, the state is promoting diverse and inclusive healthcare practices.
