A tragic boiler explosion at a power plant in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh has claimed 24 lives, with several others injured. The incident has raised serious concerns over industrial safety, as authorities initiate a detailed investigation into the cause.

Casualties and Injuries

According to officials, the death toll has risen to 24 following the blast at the Vedanta Power Plant. At least 12 people remain injured, with several undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

Earlier reports indicated that around 20 people had lost their lives, while 15 individuals were receiving medical care. Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the injured and ensure access to proper treatment.

Preliminary Probe Points to Possible Criminal Offence

Sakti Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur stated that initial findings suggest the possibility of a criminal offence linked to the incident. He confirmed that legal action has been initiated and a comprehensive investigation is underway.

Officials are examining all aspects of the case, including safety protocols and operational procedures, to determine accountability.

Government Orders Inquiry

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has ordered a formal investigation into the boiler blast. The state government has assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

The incident has prompted renewed focus on safety standards in industrial facilities across the region.

Compensation Announced for Victims

Vedanta Power Limited has announced compensation of ₹35 lakh along with employment support for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased individual. The injured will receive ₹50,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
