Rainfall activity across Odisha is set to increase significantly in the coming days, with the Regional Meteorological Centre forecasting a major wet spell starting September 20.

According to Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm activity is expected across various parts of the state until September 19. However, the weather pattern will intensify sharply from September 20 onwards, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to several regions.

Southern Odisha to Bear the Brunt

Southern Odisha is anticipated to experience the highest rainfall distribution. In light of the incoming weather system, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a Yellow Warning for September 20 and 21, specifically identifying districts such as Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam for severe precipitation.

District-Wise Warnings Till September 19

Currently, there is no major weather system directly active over the state. Nevertheless, precautionary measures remain in place. A Yellow Warning for heavy rain and lightning has been issued through September 19 for the following northern and interior districts:

  • Baleshwar
  • Jajpur
  • Kenduhar
  • Mayurbhanj

Apart from a few coastal districts where isolated showers may persist, weather in most other regions of the state is expected to remain largely dry over the remainder of the week prior to the arrival of the heavy downpours.

Residents and local authorities in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates closely.
