Malkangiri: The residents of the Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri will cast their votes in their local booths for the first time during this year’s election. To ensure a free and fair election, Director-General of Police (DGP) Arun Kumar Sarangi visited Malkangiri on Monday and reviewed law and order situation.
DGP Sarangi held a closed-door meeting for the discussions to conduct a smooth and violence-free election in Malkangiri and to check the Maoist movement. Thankfully, the presence of Maoists has not been seen in the Malkangiri district for one and a half years.
However, the Chhattisgarh election is scheduled for May 19th, while the Malkangiri election will take place on May 13th. The movement of Maoists between Chhattisgarh and Malkangiri forests is under strict surveillance, said the DGP.
Visiting Malkangiri, the DGP first went to monitor the situation near Gorasetu of Swabhiman Anchal and then held detailed discussions with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of four districts, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the Border Security Force (BSF).
The meeting, which took place at the Malkangiri SP’s office, also saw the presence of other officials including ADG Operation Dev Dutt Singh, Intelligence Director Soumendra Priyadarshi, DIG Intelligence KB Singh, DIG Charan Singh Meena and SP Nitesh Wadhwani.
