Odisha Police are preparing extensive security measures for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, scheduled at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10.
In anticipation of this prominent event, a review meeting led by the Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania was convened on Saturday to evaluate the arrangements for the event’s seamless and effective execution.
The police’s preparations for the three-day conference, which will welcome numerous VVIPs including senior Union Ministers, international Indians, and officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, were meticulously examined. An official statement noted the comprehensive discussion of these arrangements.
Recognizing the event’s significance, DGP Khurania instructed the police to ensure thorough security measures. The meeting included detailed discussions on VVIP security, dignitary and guest seating, participant safety at the venue, parking provisions, and other logistical details.
The police chief also stressed the necessity of guaranteeing a secure and comfortable accommodation for guests in various hotels. He mandated frequent hotel inspections in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara, and other districts, directing the maintenance of guest records and the supervision of their security.
Moreover, security in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri is being bolstered, as numerous international visitors are anticipated to explore Odisha’s tourist attractions. The DGP called for efficient CCTV management in major cities and urged for smooth traffic control during the event.
The meeting saw attendance from several officials, including Director (Intelligence) R P Koche, ADG (Modernisation) S K Priyadarshi, ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, ADG (Headquarters) Dayal Gangwar, Commissioner of Police (Cuttack-Bhubaneswar) S Dev Datta Singh, and Additional Commissioner of Police Umashankar Dash, among others.
