Odisha DGP Reviews Police Preparedness For General Elections 2024

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Director General of Police, Arun Kumar Sarangi, today conducted a cooperation meeting with SPs and Range DIGs of the bordering areas of Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, in light of the forthcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting was held to ensure a peaceful and impartial poll and to make the necessary arrangements to prevent the trafficking of illegal arms, intoxicants, and cash during the elections, as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

During the meeting, intelligence sharing and anti-Naxal operations were also discussed, especially in Naxal-affected areas. The SPs of the bordering districts flagged their issues with Jharkhand, Bengal, and Chhattisgarh, and various aspects were discussed to expand cooperation in various areas.

The Odisha DGP further informed that border checkpoints have been operational since the first week of January, much before the elections process set in, and have been provided with adequate police force and employees, depending on the intensity of vehicular traffic.

The meeting was attended by several senior IPS officers, including the Director of Intelligence, ADG Law and Order, IG Intelligence, DIG Special Intelligence Wing, and IG Operations.
