Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Sunday declined to interfere in a case related to the alleged use of the conch symbol, which is the party symbol of the ruling Biju Janata Dal, in government advertisements.

The court stated that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had already taken notice of the issue, and if the petitioner is not satisfied with their decision, the case can be taken up for hearing.

The case was filed by the General Secretary of Odisha BJP, Jatin Mohanty, who had earlier drawn the attention of the ECI towards the use of the conch symbol, stating that such advertisements with the symbol of the ruling party violate ECI guidelines.

However, the HC observed that it would not intervene in the issue for the time being, as the ECI has started hearing the case, and the government and BJD have received notices. It also noted that the complainant can approach the court again if they are not happy with the final decision of the ECI.
