A sharp political controversy broke out after All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora extended solidarity to Bangladesh’s student-led movement, which previously resulted in the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In a video message shared on Oct 14 during the sixth national conference of Bangladesh’s Socialist Students Front, Bora remarked that youth in India were drawing inspiration and lessons from Bangladeshi student activists fighting for democratic and voting rights.

Bora has recently emerged as a key figure in ongoing demonstrations in New Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Bora and the opposition. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Bora of making an “open admission of regime change” and alleged that her remarks reflected Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s broader agenda to conspire and destabilise Indian democracy through street-level anarchy.

Neha Bora who is poster girl of Rahul Gandhi proves Rahul’s resistance is not political.

Objective is regime change

BJP leaders, including CT Ravi and Jharkhand spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo, further claimed that the anti-CEC demonstrations were serving as a front for political destabilisation.

Rejecting the BJP’s allegations, Congress leader Rashid Alvi clarified that his party does not support anyone taking the law into their own hands, emphasising that any power shift in India occurs solely through democratic processes.

He countered that the BJP was attempting to suppress student voices while ignoring core grievances concerning voting rights.
